Star Project

Okay first, I have gone a little star crazy and I want another star guitar. I purchased a body on ebay and the seller said it was routed for a Floyd Rose. Well it wasn't, it was routed for a vintage Fender style tremolo.

Now I need to make a decision about the tremolo problem.

  1. Install a non-locking vintage tremolo. (I don't want to deal with tuning problems that will come this setup)
  2. Route out the top of the guitar and install a recessed tremolo
  3. Make a neck shim and install an Original Floyd Rose

Fortunately it was a Warmoth body and not a piece of plywood.

I was really excited about this project until I ran into this tremolo issue. I have decided to bolt the guitar together and see what happens. I have a neck that does not have a locking system so I think I am going to go ahead with the vintage tremolo. I haven't ruled out the shim idea just yet.

If I make the neck shim it would give the angle I need to install the Floyd Rose.

I already have a gap between the neck and body so if I make the shim it will get bigger and I will have to re-drill the neck bolt holes.
